Project: Stained Glass Macintosh

Stained Glass Macintosh Pattern
This project was created using an old Apple Macintosh computer that was found in the trash. Rather then letting this tired old Mac get dumped in to a landfill or even properly recycled, I decided to make it a stained glass project.

The first thing I did was remove the interior guts of the computer. Since the Mac had not been used for years, I was not concerned about any residual electricity build up. If your computer was used recently, make sure you read up on the proper method to discharge any static build up that may be in the machine. Also, make sure to properly dispose/recycle any items such as a CRT (monitor). Here is a list of proper computer disposal, donation, and recycle information.

After measuring the interior of the Mac, I determined that the proper size for the stained glass part would be 8.75 inches wide by 6.5 inches tall. After making a screen shot on my current Mac, I created a pattern in Adobe Photoshop. Please watch the video below for details on how the pattern was created.

The finished pattern has 35 pieces, and is relatively easy to reproduce. For details, you can get in depth information on how to create stained glass designs on a mac here.
