Grozing Pliers

Grozing Pliers Grozing pliers are a constantly used tool of the stained glass maker. They are different from regular pliers in that on one side they have a straight edge and on the other a slightly curved edge. The ends are flush together. This very slight space between the two edges allows the glass to be rocked gently and lets the glass break precisely where the end of the jaw is placed.

Grozing refers to "nibbling" away the glass that can also be done with this type of pliers. On tight curves or circles, multiple small scores are made inside the area that needs to be removed. The grozing pliers are used to nibble away each small slice of glass until only the final shape of glass is left behind. A good pair of grozing pliers run about $8 - $10.
